Der britische Künstler Dave White, der schon Auftragsarbeiten für Nike und Coca Cola produziert hat und vom Daily Telegraph als “one of Britain’s most feted up-and-coming painters” bezeichnet wird, hat nun wohl das teuerste Kunstwerk erschaffen, das dirket von eine Computerspiel inspiriert wurde.

Die Zeichnung von Ryu, einem der Hauptcharakter der Street Fighter Serie, ist geschätzte 7,000 bis 10,000 britische Pfund wert und anlässlich des Verkaufstarts von Street Fighter IV kreiert. Es hat Ausmaßen von 1,52m x 91,4cm und entstand durch die Liebe des Grafikers zum Spiel und der Videospielekultur im allgemeinen.

“For the past 18 years I have been playing Street Fighter in all its guises and versions,” sagt Dave White.

For me and millions of others it’s more than just a videogame, it’s a total obsession and way of life. Something more akin to the complex structure of chess, every match is different and every second offers chances and possibilities, risks and drama. That’s why I play.
